ARMAAN'S APPLE PIE

There are many versions of apple pies, but this is my favourite because it's made by my son, Armaan ( of course under my supervision). It has the least ingredients and full flavour in every bite you'd take. Do try this recipe and share with the family.

Serves 6-8
Time: 40 minutes

For the filling
4 green apples cored, diced
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup orange juice
1 handful of golden raisin
1 tsp cinnamon powder

For the pastry shell
1 ready  made rolled shortcrust pastry ( I cheated here ;) )

For the crumble crust
1/2 cup plain flour
1/4 cup soft butter
1/4 sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1-2 tsp cold milk

Method

Roll the pastry to the size of the pie tin. I used  9'' round pie tin

Line the pie tin with the pastry sheet with the baking beads, so that the pastry doesn't bubble up when it's baking.

The leftover pastry bits can be cut in different shapes for decorations. Armaan cut them into heart shapes with cookie cutter.

As the blind is in the oven, you can prepare the filling. Dice the apples and mix in orange juice, sugar, raisins and cinnamon and mix well.

Around this time the blind is semi-baked. Remove to add the apple filling in the blind and bake further for 15minutes till the apple are softened.

Remove after 15 minutes. sprinkle the crumble on the top.

Arrange the heart shape pie dough on the crumble and finish the baking for another 8 to 10 minutes.

Remove from the oven and let it cool abit. Serve it warm with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream or at room temperature with a cup of coffee.
