FRENCH TOAST
I made this for my son for breakfast today. He enjoyed it very much and asked me to make it on Christmas morning with more colourful sprinkles. Basically, any bread can be used for this recipe. I prefer unsliced loaf cause I can adjust the thickness according to my preference. Normal sliced loaf, sourdough bread, brioche etc can also be used. This can also be prepared overnight, soak the bread in egg mixture and refrigerate it. If making for a larger crowd, just bake it in the oven at 180'C for 25 to 30 minutes till golden brown crust forms. To give a rich look, add some raisins, chocolate chips or fresh berries whatever you may like. To flavour, the toasts one can add cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg or almond essence. It's totally your call. Serve it with cream, ice cream or just maple syrup.
Serves 2
Time 30 minutes
4 thick bread slices
3 eggs
1/2 milk
2 tbs caster sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 tbs butter
Method
Beat the eggs, milk, vanilla and caster sugar very well. Dip the bread slices in egg mixture, leave in for few minutes so that the bread is soaked well.
Heat the butter in the pan and fry the bread slices on the medium slow heat. You don't want the bread to get charred quickly and remain soggy inside. Let it cook slowly. Serve it warm with whipped cream or drizzle some maple syrup on it.
I served with whipped cream, colourful sprinkles and some agave syrup on top.
