JEERA (CUMIN) CHICKEN

JEERA (CUMIN) CHICKEN

There are many recipes of jeera chicken on the internet. Most of the recipes have too many spices in it. Jeera chicken is made in two ways, that's either with tomatoes or without tomatoes. I prefer without tomatoes and minimal spices. Try this recipe at home or gatherings. You will really like it.

Serves 4
Time:30-35 minutes

Spices
2 black cardamoms
4 green cardamoms
4 cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp black peppercorns
2 tbs cumin

For the chicken
1 whole chicken cut into 8-10 pieces or boneless chicken
1 tbs ginger paste
1/2 tbs garlic paste
few green chillies
4 potatoes halved (optional)
2 tbs yoghurt
1 tsp roasted ground cumin +1/2 tsp extra
1 tbs lemon juice
2 tbs fresh coriander chopped
salt
A good amount of butter /ghee

Method

Heat the ghee/butter and the spices. Fry them till they become aromatic and start to pop.

To this add the chicken pieces and brown them slightly.( add potatoes if using ).Add the ginger and garlic paste and green chillies. Fry it for few minutes.

Now add the yoghurt, ground cumin, lemon juice and salt. Give it a stir and cover. Cook on low heat.

DO NOT add any water. The chicken will cook in it's on moisture. Unless it starts to stick at the bottom of the pan, then splash very little water.

Once cooked, sprinkle some extra roasted ground cumin with fresh chopped coriander.

Serve jeera chicken with naan, chapati or bread.
