BEEF WITH HONEY & BLACK PEPPER SAUCE

A flavourful and fast meal recipe to cook for the family. Serve it with some green vegetables and rice on the side. 



Serves 4
Time: 20-25 minutes


Marination for beef
500-700 grams beef strips
1 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp Chinese cooking wine/ sherry
1 tbs soy sauce
2-3 spring onions, chopped white and green part separated ( will use green part only)
2 tbsp oil


For the sauce
3 tbs soy sauce
2 tbs oyster sauce
2 tbsp Chinese cooking wine/sherry
3 tbsp honey
1 tsp corn flour
2 tbsp water
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper


Method

In a bowl mix together baking soda, Chinese cooking wine and soy sauce. Add the beef and massage the marination into it and leave it aside for few minutes.

In another bowl mix all the ingredients of the sauce. 

Heat the oil in a wok. make sure the wok is very hot. Add the beef strips to the wok and cook quickly. Basically, flash cooking. It won't take long because the beef is already tenderised with baking soda. Remove and keep aside.

In the same pan, add the mixed sauce and bring to boil, you will notice bubbles forming. Toss in the beef strips. Adjust the taste. 

Serve immediately with the hot rice and some greens on the side and sprinkle some green onions on top.

TIP: Instead of using meat tenderizers to tenderise the meat cuts or you don't have a papaya, use the baking soda. It doesn't ruin the taste of the meat.
