PITA BREAD

PITA BREAD

Yields 6
Time : 1-hour kneading & rising + 20 minutes in oven

3 cups plain flour
2 tsp yeast
a pinch (1/8 tsp) sugar
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 to 2cups warm water
1 tbs olive oil

Method

  • First, in a bowl, add about half cup of water to yeast and sugar, keep it aside for 5 to 8 minutes. It will become frothy.
  • Pour this mix into the flour bowl and make a dough while adding little by little warm water. Knead it well, cover and keep in warm place to rise.

  • Punch the dough down softly and divide into 6 balls. Roll these ball and set aside on well-floured surface and cover for 5 minutes.

  • Bake the pita bread in very hot preheated oven 220'C-240'C. It will take about 15minutes for all 6 bread to puff up. (My oven is big so I could fit 3 to 4 of them)

  • As  soon as they puff up, remove and store in cloth to keep it warm.
